Acupuncture for Pain & Musculoskeletal Concerns
Pain can affect far more than how your body feels—it can change the way you move, work, sleep and enjoy everyday life. Activities that once felt effortless can become uncomfortable, frustrating or difficult to manage.
If you’ve tried physiotherapy, chiropractic care, medication or other approaches and are still experiencing pain, acupuncture may offer another option. Pain management is one of the most common reasons patients seek acupuncture and a primary focus of my clinical practice.
Treatment is individualized to understand not only where you are experiencing pain, but also the factors that may be contributing to it. The goal is to help reduce discomfort, improve function and mobility, and support your return to the activities that matter to you.
How acupuncture can help
Acupuncture may be incorporated into care for concerns such as back and neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, knee pain, sciatica, muscle tension, headaches, and the general aches and stiffness that build up over years rather than arriving all at once.
I use very fine, sterile, single-use needles placed at specific points to stimulate the body’s own pain-modulating and anti-inflammatory responses. For musculoskeletal pain, research suggests acupuncture can help reduce pain intensity, ease muscle tension and improve mobility. Depending on your assessment, treatment may also draw on cupping, gua sha, Tui Na massage or electroacupuncture.
Your treatment is based on your individual presentation, not on the label attached to your pain. Where it lives, what triggers it, what you have already tried, and what an AcuGraph assessment shows all shape the plan.
What a treatment plan looks like
Most people begin with weekly sessions. As symptoms improve and your body moves toward greater balance, treatments can gradually be spaced further apart.
-
Comprehensive first visit
A full intake, an AcuGraph assessment to map imbalances, and your first treatment, the same day you walk in.
-
Personalized treatment phase
Regular sessions targeting your specific pain pattern, adjusted each visit based on how your body responds.
-
Resolution and maintenance
As mobility returns and pain eases, the frequency of treatment reduces. The goal is to support your long-term health and wellbeing.
Your questions, answered
I’m afraid of needles. Will it hurt?
Fear of needles is one of the most common concerns I hear—and it’s completely understandable. Acupuncture needles are exceptionally thin and very different from the needles used for injections or blood tests.
Most patients feel little to no discomfort during insertion and are often surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. Once the needles are in place, many people find the treatment deeply relaxing—and some even fall asleep.
If you’re nervous, just let me know. We can start slowly, explain each step as we go, and make sure you’re comfortable throughout your treatment.
Is this covered by insurance?
Most private insurance plans in New Brunswick cover acupuncture. You will receive a receipt after every session to submit to your provider.
How many treatments will I need?
There isn’t one answer that applies to everyone. The recommended frequency depends on your health concerns, how long you have had them, their severity, your overall health, and how your body responds to treatment. We will discuss your plan together and reassess your progress as we go.
Can acupuncture work alongside my other treatment?
Yes, and I encourage it. Acupuncture can be one part of your overall healthcare. I support an integrative approach and encourage patients to continue working with their physician and other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
